THE MARKET

According to a study by The Kelsey Group and ConStat, Inc., the Internet is now the third most popular advertising and promotion medium for local markets after the yellow pages and newspapers.

The Internal Revenue Services' 1998 Data Book shows over 1.3 million tax-exempt organizations registered with the IRS. According to the AAFRC Trust for Philanthropy, these organizations received over $107 billion in donations from 31 percent of US taxpayers that chose to itemize deductions on their tax return in 1998. They estimate that total charitable giving totaled $134.8 billion; therefore, 31 percent of the population accounts for 80 percent of the charitable contributions.

According to a recent University of Wisconsin study, one in thirty Americans are employed by Non-profits and over 89 million Americans volunteer approximately 225 hours per year or about four hours per week of their time to Non-profits. Furthermore, an average US city of 50,000 residents would have 370 Non-profits and approximately 1,800 full and part time workers.
